Belt replacement

Hello R4 friends,

I was driving home after a short trip around central London when, just as I pulled into my street, the battery warning light came on, followed quickly by the temperature warning light.

Luckily, I was already home, so I turned the engine off straight away. After opening the bonnet, I found that the lower of the two belts had failed and was torn (see photo below).

The car had been stored for many years, so I suspect the belt could be around 15 years old.

The vehicle is a 1984 GTL model, and I’m now trying to source the correct replacement belt. The existing belt is marked DAYCO 10A0650C, but when I search for this code, it sometimes comes up listed for a Renault 5.

However, when I tried to order a 10A0650C belt via eBay, the seller contacted me to say it was not the correct part for my car based on the registration number.

So my questions are: Is 10A0650C actually the correct belt size for this car? If not, what is the correct belt specification? And where would you recommend sourcing the correct, good-quality replacement belts?

Thanks for your help,

Rory

I appreciate your old one's somewhat chewed up, but is it not possible to measure it & therefore compare with the one offered for sale? Bear in mind that the belt's tension is adjustable, so a belt a few mm bigger could be catered for in the tensioner. Although this is a "bit late" to hear this, always carry a spare belt or 2 in the car. If, once you've ascertained which belt IS the right one, buy two-and be prepared!
