Colour code - can't find it

Could anybody tell me where i can locate the colour code - i was told it is on the inside of the front wing (?!)
Or failing that-what would the paint be technically called for a blue C reg GTL model? And was it always one type of blue on latter model models ?

It should be somewhere on the driver's side inner wing - usually at the front. Clean or degrease the area well and you may be able to see it. If not you will have to take the car (or a panel) to your local paint suppliers and they will be able to match it up.

A C-reg would be around 1985/86? In 1983 Renault started replacing the stencilled code with a sticky label usually stuck adjacent to the rectangular VIN plate, so there are chances that the sticky label has gone missing.......

According to the GSF car parts catalogue you can find the paint code on the oval plate. There should be four lines of digits on the plate, on the third line down, count two digits in from the right, and the preceeding three digits should give you the paint code.
Hope this helps.

Rudi.:)

I looked at the oval plate on the bulkhead and read back two numbers and the preceeding numbers came out as 522,so it looks like I,ve found my paint code.

Many thanks.

Roodini, on what R4s does this apply? May I suppose the later ones have a 4-row oval plate?

Late R4s (well, our 1990 Slovenian GTL) have four rows on the oval plate (it might actually be diamond-shaped, I can't remember!). On our car, the first row is 1128.

However, using the method of counting back 2 digits and reading off the previous 3 digits of the third row to get the paint code results in 002, which I'm not sure is correct. The car is metallic blue, so would be 4xx or 6xx I think. I can't see the paint code on the inner wing, but I'll have another look.

Maybe you are reading the equipment code on the oval plate? Later equipment codes were like 00 000 as opposed to the earlier three digit (and earliest two digit code).

Looking at this site, which RichardIRL found, it seems that perhaps the paint code is the last row of our oval plate (the fourth row): 468, making it bleu ozone or ozone blue. It certainly looks the same colour as the one in the photo on the site.

Hello guys,

my R4 is close to be ready for re-paint, but ... I realized I cant find out the color code.

Its a 89 GTL from Slovenia.
Here is the image of the oval plate.

I found these sites with codes and colors, where 991 seems to be the good one:
Site 1
Site 2

From what I think, it should be Shetland 991. But this number is not anywhere on the oval plate. What do you think is the right color code?

Thank you

I bought a 86 GTL 2 years ago, but I never found the color code, the right inner wing has been changed or painted, and even under the dashboard I didn't find the number, can anyone tell me what is this color ???

Maybe you already tried this, but here is how I did it. Had the same problem like you, went through these sites and compared the images. There are different images and not all lists are same complete. After having a code tip, I went to a color seller with the code and asked for a small amount preparing and compared :)

I would say it can be this one:

I just saw all the links you gave to me, I didn't find it in the paint guide of Clemetine, because this color is not in the differents blues !

I also do think it's the 428, thanks you pietrofilipi :D

Try 422 Ardoise. There is a picture of mine in its origional colour on the Paint Codes Sticky.

I would be cautious of comparing colours between your car and a computer screen, since every screen (and every camera) is different. It's a useful guide, but don't buy the paint without trying a sample first!
