One of the many tasks I'm currently engaged in is stripping all the external plastic off the bodywork prior to painting. Now I've just removed the narrow grille under the wipers and discovered an unattached lever lurking underneath. It emerges inside the car to the left of the heater and I suspect that it opens and shuts a ventilation flap. But I can't see or feel anything resembling a flap. Might it be hidden behind the heater and might I have to remove the heater to attach the end to whatever it is meant to actuate?

Also does anyone know where it might be possible to download a PDF of the 4GTL owner's manual (not the workshop manual)?

I believe that the flap is supposed to be permanently fixed to the grill, so your little plastic holders must have broken off, like mine did. I'll try and get a photo of the flap for you, perhaps you can make your own instead of taking your car apart

In the first photo you can see the main flap and also a thin strip. They're supposed to be joined together. If your flap has disappeared you'll probably find that thin strip of plastic still joined to the top of the grill.

In the second photo you can see where it's supposed to fit. I'm fixing mine at the moment and cut open a small plastic container that contained screws and I'm using the hinged lid to make a hinge. Just waiting for the glue to dry; if it's not strong enough I'll put in some capped rivets.

For the bottom part that fits on the bar, just get some hose clamps, remove the bottom section and bend the top part in half, then rivet it to your plastic flap; it'll make a nice holder for your bar.

Of course all you need is some plastic and better still if you can find someone who's selling parts

Thanks for info - my flap is missing so time for a little ingenuity as you suggest (there doesn't seem to be anywhere it could have dropped into).
