Does anyone have a petrol tank for a 1986 saloon?

Of all the odd things to fail the MOT on, it turns out someone did a very poor repair on my petrol tank and I need to find a replacement. I don't suppose anyone has one they'd be willing to sell? Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

They may still be available from Renault. About £125 I think. If not, there are specialists who can repair them. I have a horrible feeling that I threw a passable one out a few weeks back, but I'm sure someone else may be able to help.

I also threw one out. Sorry.

There is a bloke who advertises second hand Renault 4 parts. He's called Liam Jones E-mail louise.riding@btopenworld.com (Henley On Thames, UK). He's worth a try for a secondhand tank.

Otherwise somewhere like Partco or Brown Brothers or a local motor factors should be able to source one for you.

Sorted! Picked up a tank from Liam yesterday, fitting it as soon as I finish this sausage butty. Liam's a sound guy - he's breaking a 4 saloon at the moment so if anyone else needs bits....
Many thanks for the contact Clem and ta muchly to everyone else for the suggestions.

Glad i could be of help.Always available for help and advice. Also have quite a lot of used spares so if i cannot help you i probably know someone who can .The Renault classic car club has quite a few R4 members now so please consider joining or turning up to a event for a chat.

Hi Liam, I'm really pleased you've joined the forum. Welcome.

Liam has a wealth of experience with Renault 4s, and from what I can tell has a wealth of Renault 4s for spares as well. He puts a lot of effort into supporting these cars.

The Renault Classic Car Club website can be found at http://www.renaultclassiccarclub.com/ I've filled out the membership form and will soon be a member of the hippest Renault Club in the UK. (Assuming they allow cats to join).

BTW Lorax - how did you get on with your sausage butty - and is the R4 on the road?

Sorry Clem, it's that tree trimming time of year and the work's been rolling in so I've not been on the forum for a while. Got the ketchup stains out of the fleece easy enough and fitting the petrol tank I got from Liam didn't take much longer. Had to 'fabricate' a pointy stick thingy to hold a spanner on the awkward nut so's I could undo the bolt under the back seat (dimensions/type of wood/curses involved to follow ) Sailed through the MOT and has been running okish since. Can't seem to get rid of the pinking though.....(running superunleaded with Castrol Valve stuff seems to help but I think I'll have to sort the timing too) Love the car and get lots of interest from blokes whos 'wife used to have one' - 'fess up guy's, it was yours! Will post a pic soon.
Happy 4ing all.
