Fuel gauge

The fuel gauge on my new R4 refuses to work. I have 12v input to the gauge and12v output on the bench but in the car output is only 6.5v we have checked everything we can think of without sucess. Can anyone help please?

How did you sort it? I have a similar problem and would appreciate any advice on how to rectify it.

A bad earth on the petrol tank (too much underseal) and the supply is only 6v, there is a resistor built in to the instrument panel. Check continuity from gauge to tank and tank sender to earth, I fitted a separate earth lead to the sender unit, wire clamped around the fuel outlet pipe, works fine
