Handbrake Cables

Can someone explain how best to remove the handbrake cable from the backplate? All of the manuals are strangely silent on this. Is it a push fit and just needs brute force to remove or is there some more subtle agent at work here? And we are talking GTL (rear) brakes here. Merci mes amis.

They are a press fit. Knock them out from the inside of the drum with something blunt.
