Owned R4GTL for 20 years - off road on sorn. Trying to find help in Cornwall for someone to repair the n/s rear suspension mount?
Can anyone recommend someone?

Hi there, welcome to the forum. I'm near you, I live in Falmouth and often visit Redruth, and know it well as I use to live there. It's hard to find a welder these days who understands Renault 4s, if you know what I mean, the term old school comes to mind. Let me have a think, and I'll get back to you.
All the best Brian.

Thank you Reidalpine for your welcome. I have been viewing the forum regularly over the past year or so and finally decided I need to get the R4 back on the road.
Thank you also Brian in Falmouth - I was hoping you might respond as you are not far from me.

I attach some pics of the N/S rear suspension mount which took the car off the road 20 years ago - is it a big job?!

Hmm, that is quite a big job, and as you probably know, as soon as you start removing rusty metal, a job can get considerably bigger. Are there any other areas in a similar condition? The other side, and the front corners of the chassis? Sorry to be a prophet of doom, but Renault 4s aren't known for their longevity, unless we'll maintained and protected from the dreaded tin worm. What is your car like mechanically?
There are a little more than 100 left on the roads of Britain, so worth saving if you can.
Regards Bry.

Thank you for your comment Bry. I think other areas are generally ok - the car has been garaged for the last 20 years. Unfortunately the engine has seized from standing but I will try to free it upon with a bit of diesel. The car was running fine 20 years ago and I am minded to try to save it and get it back on the road just trying to assess whether or not its will be a body off chassis process or not?!. Car is original Cornish reg, so in my opinion, worth saving.

Hi there. A chassis replacement is of course a big job, and by no means straight forward, so if you can avoid that so much the better. If you can get the car raised up so you can investigate all areas likely to be rusty, that would be good. It's great that you would like to save your 4, it is rare now, and lovely it's a Cornish car. Could you PM me please with your phone number, as I would of course like to have a look at your car, and maybe advise you on what to do if you need advice.
Regards Bry.
