Hidden in my fuel tank ???

After my embarrassing fuel starvation on the Kent run :roll: i thought i should clean the fuel pick up filter in the tank before i went too far again

when i modded the yellow peril i had the foresight to make an inspection cover so thought it would be simple to get out

after much wriggling i was very suprised to find a mesh bag attached to sender containing metal discs ?? ,as i ve owned it since 1985 why were they there ?
pretty sure they must be for unleaded conversion but why so long ago ?

tried to fit different sender unit with plastic filter (as metal one was impossible to clean )but was too tall so swapped filters and refitted it all quite tricky

goes much better now so ready for the Northern run (or Santa Pod )if you choose a dry day Malcolm

Looks like one of those miracle devices for using unnleaded (or curing rheumatism). The idea is it prevents the valves from burning out by completely blocking the petrol supply.

Think they are there to prevent the car from leaking water..
if you've not seen any water pouring out of it when parked-
