Hi, im new to this forum so Happy crimbo fer starters!!

Can anyone help, I have a Kangoo S reg which has bin beltin up to now....

It starts cold, but wen gets warm refuses to start, its had all electrical checks, new battery, and before i spend a fortune i thought id ask guys if anyone has any ideas.......be grateful of any ideas :D

Cheers

Take it the starter churns over at normal speed but the Kangoo just doesn't start? (If the starter were going slow it'll be an old fashioned problem).

In an old car hot starting would be really simple - fuel vaporisation. Newer car with fancy fuel injection I just don't know, but there are a couple of regulars who are modern Renault fans that could probably guess.

So what is the problem exactly? From your first post I thought it wasn't starting well when hot. From your last post I'm getting vibes that it does start as it should when hot but it's the white smoke that's the problem.

Am I on the ball now? If you could offer a detailed description of the problem we might be able to help diagnose.

it starts wen cold not wen hot, the mechanic sed it spurts white smoke an doesnt rev wen its hot....he thought it was a bad earth sumwhere as also the clocks on the dash were re-setting, so its had a new gear box mount (which did have a loose earth) its had a new battery, an still it has same problem ie: it wont start or sputters if its warm. So now its lookin expensive an dont kno where to begin to solve problem. He mentioned a solanoid? but still is unsure of problem. I just dont wanna spend a fortune if sumone has had this problem b4, .....

hi pat are we talking petrol or diesel kangoo here ? is van losing coolant -
paul

its diesel.........if i start it an drive fer a bit itsfine but say if i go to petrol station an fuel up wen i come bk it wont start. The coolant was low but has been topped up.....the computer says theres no other faults recognised on it.

(sorry cant resist) if its diesel and you fill it with petrol it probably wont start !!

seriously is fuel filter clean and have you ever run it out of diesel as there may be water in fuel filter housing
have also had strange prob with dsl laguna recently where wrong fuel filter cartridge fitted was too tall for plastic casing causing air leaking into fuel ( and would not start sometimes poor running etc) rang factors who supplied exactly the same thing after checking further fitted later year filter 5mm shorter prob solved

no diagnostic machine in the world can sort basic problems but we all end up scratching our heads sometimes

would suggest diesel specialist rather than renault dealer if you are still stuck
happy xmas -paul

Oddly I saw a diesel with a bit of petrol in it the other day - missing occasionallty and lots of white smoke on start up. Owner insisted he hadn't filled it with petrol. Turns out pump colours aren't all standardised and he was caught out.

lol it was filled wiv diesel!!

I shall mention it to the mechanic, but its bin serviced an filters changed from new by same garage, but it still starts wen its bin stood overnight, the fact remains wen i stop at a shop fer me paper it wont re-start:eek:

This one had me thinking, I had an Astra diesel in a couple of years back behaving like this.
Starts fom cold fine and drives O.K. If turned off when hot (while she dropped the children off at school) it wouldnot start for several minutes of trying - often running the battery down first - breakdown guy comes out and it starts fine.
I eventually tracked it down to a worn injection pump. When the fuel is cold the pump can still raise the pressure to pressurise the diesel and lift the injector needle. However when the engine is hot and left stationary for a short time the diesel fuel heats up and thins, the worn pump cannot then create the fuel pressure to lift the injector needle - hence no start.
If this is the problem the only cure is a replacement pump or a pump rebuild.
You havent said how many miles it has covered, the Astra was 130 000 or so.
hope this helps

Hi Pat - you are looking for a fault that is temperature related - If your model has a crank sensor, I would be suspecting that is going open circuit when hot - look at the near side of the engine where it joins the gearbox
