Made a start on MINTY

We have decided to have a go at MINTY! We have been unbolting lots of stuff. Found a 1/2 franc under the floor mats, taking that as a good luck sign and have put it somewhere safe! Trying to get our heads around what has to be detached to enable us to lift the body off the chassis, pondering and puzzling our way through it at the moment. The good news is that the soundproofing under the floor mats in the back is in good condition, it's just the rusty mess in the front foot wells! And it all looks like factory finish!? Also found an original factory brown paper ticket under one of the front seats! My husband thinks it is very original. Can't quite work out why all the bolts are different sizes and soo long!?? Think they had a good rummage in the stores and used up what they could find. I think the next thing to do is take out the steering column. I am finding it quite stressful but my husband tells me not to worry. Keeping calm and carrying on.

Sounds like good progress! Are you recording what goes where?

I hope so!!! Have been labeling wires with tape etc. How easy is it to get the ecelarator and brake pedals out? And how do we even do that?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained! So here we go. AS promised, a few pictures for those of you who are interested. Any suggestions or ideas greatly received. We can see through the floor, which I know is not unusual. We haven't even got to the rear chassis yet!!!!WP_20190915_18_10_35_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_11_07_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_10_35_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_11_07_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_11_16_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_11_29_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_11_52_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_12_18_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_12_33_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_12_51_Pro.jpgWP_20190915_18_13_05_Pro.jpg

Thanks. Do we have to take the pedal cluster out? Trying to get the body off, everything is moving not sure how far we need to go? Getting scared now

I will have look in the morning but i think pedal cluster stays with the body

Ha! We took it out! Basically took off everything. Body is now free and have organised some muscle to come tomorrow and lift it off the chassis. I am not going to be present, can't stand the stress!! And I have to go to Bee school! Last lesson of the course so can't miss it. Bee keeping is my other hobby, nearly as stressful as MINTY. He, he. The honey is as sticky as all the mastik holding MINTY together, got to laugh.

Only issue could be the glue,
In my car i had to lift body up a bit and left it for while , after about 2 hours the body separated

What is with the black sticky stuff?! It's everywhere and looks pretty original factory finish. Can't believe that after all this time, it's still sticky!!! They don't make glue like they used to do they? Still can't find anything that's good enough to keep the window openers from falling off!! I wonder if you can still get that black sticky stuff they used in the 80's?;)

so, still at it. Lucky I didn't have a catastrophic failure!! Held together with crazy foam!!? This definitely was the right thing to do.

Totally rusted out, near to breaking point. Both sides filled with crazy foam, amazing stuff!! Just checking the bank balance to make sure I've got enough funds to order the bits. Any suggestions on reliable suppliers?

The Foam was put in at the factory, mine were the same, all my parts came from franzose but there are other suppliers, Renault them selves also still do some bits

I found the window catch issue solved finally by using some Crystal Epoxy glue - such as in the photo. Still attached after more than a year. Not as invisible as the superglue, but it does work.crystal glass glue.jpg
