Hello, all
I have just bought a lovely F4 - 1988 first French registration, UK a couple of years back, and now to me. Sat still for the last couple of years, so needs some love. but to the mystery...
There are no computerised listings that I can find for a 1988 1108cc F4. There are for 1986. I am guessing a postal van, manufactured after 1986 public cut off? or did I just make that up?
The V5 lists an 1108 engine, 1988 registration. Renault with no model
Curse of mystery - now needs side indicators/repeaters as registered after 86 -- for MOT anybody have some lovely teardrop Fiat ones??

Any thought, wisdom, wonder, advice welcome..

Bits I'm fixing, with a little help,
the exhaust is hanging off,
the starter is silent - but did drive lovely until this morning -
The speedo isn't working
Headlight redirecting,
and side repeaters
hoping to have MOT'd end of the weekend but expecting speedo or starter may be interesting
kind wishes to you all

My F4 estate has a body build date of 1987 so they were definitely still making them in France then. But they did stop importing them to the UK in 1986 which might be why computer says no.

Hi Damian
There should be a couple of identification plates under the bonnet. If it's an 88, does the oval plate have 210B on it? If so, the production numbers are:

1987: C009101
8706 (From June?): C029601
8806: C043879

If it's a 239B:

1987: C002001
8706: C002301
8806: C002446

This page will help:

I might have a pair of side repeaters; I've certainly got a starter motor.
Is the speedo cable turning, or is the speedometer itself broken?
Good luck with the MOT!

Hi there, nice van, welcome to the forum. I like the side window, very useful, and good safety feature.
The side repeaters as fitted by Renault to certain models including the 4, are diamond shaped to match the Renault badge, very stylish. Regards Brian. 20200615_170220.jpg

Interesting!
Numbers for 2106:

1985: J000001
1986: J016317

I'll have a look for the side repeaters.
What's the number on the engine plate?

Maybe so.. when searching 88, the model doesn't figure in my insurance and parts searches, have you had better luck?..

For parts searches it's the same a the '86. I tend to use classic insurance and they tend to be quite flexible and just type the details in. Imports don't tend to be on the insurance computers.

Amazingly, I've found a pair of working side repeaters! Will send a pm.
Any chance you could post a couple of pictures of the engine bay, including the engine plate number?

the engine plate number is all but dust, nothing left of it, ..
engine number listed as M598160 - DISCOVERY but a picture previously taken shows engine stamp J598160 and the old pic has the missing plate - attached -688D7/12 Dmissing plate.jpg

If your van is an 1108cc (radiator immediately behind the grille, 3 fixing bolts on the starter motor), it'll be cheaper to get a new starter motor here:

https://www.mister-auto.co.uk/starter-motor/renault/4/4-112-1-1-34hp-1978-1990/

Okay, just seen the 688 plate - 1108 it is!
Eureka - solid evidence. and Thank you. so I now know confirmed engine size - is there a way to tell between the models - 1hp difference? wondering if that small difference means different parts?..checking Mr auto link
