Hello my name is Josh Bloom and I am a Producer at Renegade Pictures (www.renegadepictures.co.uk).
We have been commissioned by Nat Geo (The National Geographic HD channel on Sky) to make a programme in which we take people's old cars and secretly restore them to their former glory. Let me explain more....

We are looking for someone who owns a much loved older car that has fallen into disrepair. Friends or family of this person, knowing how much this car means to them and that they will never get round to doing it up themselves, nominate them as potential candidates for this programme. Our plan is to then secretly take this car away, and service, paint and repair it until it's as close to original condition as we can manage. We then present it back to the very appreciative owner.

This might be an opportunity for you to give something back to a generous and kind soul or someone who has fallen ill and needs cheering up? Maybe somebody who started a project but no longer has the funds to complete the job? Or perhaps somebody whose car failed its MOT 10 years ago, is locked away in a garage, has particular sentimental value and it would bring huge joy into their lives to enjoy it on the road again.

The car will need to be from the late 1950s until the late 1980s and can be anything from an old Mini to a Ford Sierra, and while we do wish to work on interesting cars, time and budgets mean we won't be doing up any Maseratis or Bentleys I'm afraid.

If you have somebody in mind and would like to give a gift to a deserving member of your family or community please contact me either by phone or email.

BUT PLEASE REMEMBER SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT

Our goal is to keep the recommission secret from the owner so if you have somebody in mind please don't mention the show to them at any stage!
If you are successful in your nomination we will then tell you more about how it will all work

Please call or email any time.

Thanks

Josh

The question here is : will the car be restored by experts for that particular marque, or simply made to look cosmetically nice? If the latter, unless the restoration is not only done sympathetically but with the correct specialised knowledge, the car may be ruined as a potentially concours item.

Speaking personally, I would not have thought that car restoration would make for particularly exciting television. And I'd be most reluctant to put any of my R4 hulks into the hands of a restorer unless I was absolutely sure that he knew R4s inside out.

And how do you remove a "much loved" vehicle without the owner noticing?

I kind of disagree -

If its one of the vehicles which is loved but worth very little (the sort of thing most R4 fans would ignore on ebay for £100 as its so knackered) then why not let it be recommissioned - better than it ending on the scrap heap or broken for parts !

Thanks for your pertinent questions, I think you raise some good points.

In answer to your question - The recommission will be specific to each case but will be done to the highest standard by experts specific to that marque. It is our highest priority that any work done will have no detrimental effect on the car.

At the moment we are really looking for nominations of deserving people. The stories are as important as the car itself. Our goal is to give some happiness to a deserving person, by putting a car which they had given up for dead back on the road.

Secretly removing and having the work done on the car will involve the cooperation of friends / family who might have access, and this will all be part of the story. I agree it will be tricky but that is part of why we believe this will make for interesting TV.

Please fire over any other feedback or questions as they are vital in helping us to get this right.

Well I think it's a great idea, and should make entertaining viewing. Just to see the proud owners face as they see their car when youve done with it will be priceless. I know it's been done on American TV but I have a feeling this won't be so glitzy, more subtle and British. Good luck finding some suitable vehicles.

Glad you like the premise, and yes it is going to be a much more British affair. Please keep your eyes and ears open for some worthy nominations.

Sounds like a great premise for a TV show, I don't know anyone to nominate (unless tractors are included) but good luck with the show though!

Hi Brian...can you nominate my red 4 please....i wont look when they take it away...honest;)

Funny you should say that Andrew, I was wondering if you would miss it from its resting place above your office.
