Octopus Leak BX

An R4 owners BX octopus is leaking and has filled its tank up with ink!

However another R4 owner has a fantastic, mint BX that has had an oil leak since - well forever. The pump has been replaced and pipework has been "patched up" but now the time has come to change the crucial part.

I have my head in a haynes manual now but all not not clear, they seem to forget to mention it.

I have searched and read up on leaky BX's but i am not clear on what exactly leaks meaning the octopus or its pipe work back to the resevoir. If its pipework surley i can just pull it apart and fit new?

I tend to cheat and just cut and insert copper pipe between the split pieces whe. I ran mine!

Although the Octopus sometimes split in a difficult place where you can't do that! I've only replaced one once and in the end I whipped the engine and box out, pressure washed everything off and did everything in comfort!

Less of an oil slick, more a small leak, but with one Octopus 'tentacle' flying free!!
