Odometer

My R4's speedo works but not the odometer. Any suggestions? Repairable or down to a new instrument unit? Is this an MOT criterion?

It doesn't matter for the MOT,

In fact judging by how many cars I've seen with just kilometres on the clock, then the MOT testers don't seem to bothered by it not having MPH either!

The odometer will only be a problem for limited mileage instance policies -0 they will try to wiggle out of claims for any reason and on a limited mileage policy the miles will be one.

I've not tried taking apart a GTL speedo but I'd bet once you are in there you will see the problem. Just got to be careful with the printed wiring attached to the back.

Good point by Malcolm, I don't have mine on a limited mileage policy so had never thought of it.

Thanks, Malcolm. I'll give it a try - I like to track my cars' consumptions so a working odometer is nearly a must - but not if it means a new unit.
