Original engine?

I'm now not sure which engine is fitted to my '83 TL.

The chassis plaque says 1123. But, although the inner wing has a cranking handle fitted, there is no way to get it onto the crankshaft pulley engagement.

The rad is in the way and the hole in the bodywork lines up with the end plate of the gearbox.

The engine number stamped on the block is, I suppose, the giveaway. It is B1BS070 RG3937. All of the letters/ numbers are embossed except for the 'G', which is lightly stamped.

Can anyone please help?

Exactly what it should be...B1B is the code for later 845s.

The starting handle dog on the gearbox front cover had been removed in 1971, one year after the 12V electrical circuit introduction. The starting handle hole remained on the chassis crossmember until the end of production, though. It served nothing, except for an excellent entrance for water, mud etc that accumulated on the bottom of the crossmember and corroded it...
