Oval Numbers?

Hi All, I have recently aquired a F6 van with a very sound chassis, I hope to get it on the road and then restore it as I go along and bring it back to its former glory. My question for the moment is ' whats the relevance of the oval numbers re different models etc, mine is 2370 ' Thanks for a great site hope to get to know a few of you along the way. The Oval plaquette under the hood is to identify the Model-type, the engine, the gearbox, the specs, the country for which the car was built ...

2370 is the R4 F6.
