R1129-what is it?

Occasionally, on aftermarket parts catalogs, I used to see some references on a mystery R1129 type of R4. Yesterday, while reading the last "Votre Auto" edition of Gazoline, I saw that it had been produced from 1976 to 1979 in about 35.000 examples. But, nothing else is referred in the text. Does anybody know to which version R1129 refers?

The only references I've found (Google) say it's a Renault 4 TL produced from '76 to '79. Seems to be 852cc. From there I'm struggling.

That seems to be the answer...I thought that only the Fasa R1125 and R2108 had the 852cc engine. But it seems that there was the French 1129 also. It must be really rare.

According to the Renault 4 (1971-93) special of Gazoline in 1976 there were 3 saloon models the L, TL and the newly introduced Safari. It also lists 3 model numbers 1123, 1126 and 1129 which started at 1 and ending at 3,150 that year.

In July 1978 the Safari is removed from the Renault catalogue and for 1979 1129 is no longer listed as a model for the R4 just the 1123, 1126 and 1128.

Could it be that the Safari was given the model number 1129?

No, I'm 100% sure, the Safari was either R1123 or R1126. The Rxxxx codes, by the way, have nothing to do with body equipment.
Coincidentally the years of production of the Safari and R1129 are the same!

Hello, here in Colombia the R1129 corresponds to a GTL with an engine of 1108 cc.

Hi,
having had the same question I ran into this ancient topic, and, in addition to what Castorlex already said, I can confirm that the 1129 was exclusively for the Colombian market. PR1105 provides the ultimate proof on page 05.41, where the 1129 is linked to country code 589 being Colombia. When looking up the tailgate logo plates on page 85.25, the 1129 is linked to 'RENAULT TL'. On the other hand, I cannot find a direct link to a complete engine: neither 688, nor 839 or 800 appear to match, but the GTL 1128 and the 1129 do share the same block and most if not all other engine parts.
