R4 GTL gearbox wanted/where can I find?

Hi guys,

I'm going to give lifestyle Renault a call tomorrow but I was just wondering if anyone had suggestions about where I can find a R4 GTL gearbox.

Mine packed up on the M25 a few days ago unfortunately and so I'm quite keen to get a new one!

Hello there, welcome to the forum, you could give Derek Flavell at Renospeed a try, he is very much into R4s and his business is in SE London, so he is sort of local to you.

I'd be looking at a second hand box from Derek, buying new or getting repaired could prove expensive! It's unusual to hear of a 4 gearbox failing!

If you have no luck, then give me a shout I have a spare one in the back of my unit if I remember correctly, Dereks a lot closer to you than I am though!

Its a lovely car which I've had for years and would love to keep so hopefully getting it fixed won't be cost prohibitive.

How much do these things usually cost? Would installation be very labour intensive?

Hi there, glad to be of help. I wouldn't think a second-hand box would be too pricey, and I believe changing a gear-box is a relatively straight forward job, ie not an engine out job or anything like that. I hope Derek is able to help you and get your little beauty back on the road as soon as poss:smile:

It is engine out, much easier that way

I have got a good one you can have for £100.

You don,t have to take the engine out, It should take a morning to do it. They couldnt have made it much easier I think.

Spare gearboxes abound in French scrapyards, if you have the means to get one back.
