Hello Friends! American here who has long admired classic R5's! I now have an opportunity to purchase a 72 R5 w/956CC engine. The plan thus far is to collect the car in the south of France and tour the area for a while - then cross over to Northern Italy ( como) prior to having the car imported into the USA. Question for the experts! Can this year/displacement R5 cruise at 100 kmh/60 MPH for times I need to make it onto the motorways? I intend to carry out my drives mostly of "B" roads however there are stretches that need motorways and I am hopeful this won't be a problem. Thank you !

Hi
I had exactly the same car from 1981 to 1985 - a 1972 956cc Mark I R5, with the dash shift. It would happily do an indicated 90 mph - probably on the optimistic side; 70 mph won't be a problem at all if the car's been well serviced.
Good luck with the car and the Italian trip (the motorways in the north can be unnerving - especially in the tunnels!).
