Hi people, (especially the technically gifted amongst you!).

I'm prepping my R4GTL (1986) for its mot, and came accross the dreaded rust around the area where the torsion bar passes through the outer mounting bracket.
It's actually the round part that's rusting, bad enough for chunks to come away.
Is it safe to effect a repair with a liquid steel type of resin?
I've looked through the Oracle (Haynes) and I can't find any 'real' information as to how it's held together, nor what lies underneath the metal.
Is there a bush under there, a bearing?
As always, any help gratefully received.

Rudi.

There's a rubber bush inside the outer mounting so it can't be welded. Windclassics in the Netherlands can supply replacement mountings but it's a big job to remove the suspension to fit them.

I've been known to apply underseal over the holes. Figure there is plenty of other stuff holding the rear suspension on. Though if you end up getting bump steer then it might be worth looking at a replacement.

As always Malcolm, thanks for the advice.
Decided to clean up the area, 'liquid metal' it, then apply underseal.
Regards to the frog and cat!

Rudi.:D
