does anyone know if the sub assembly of the 850 will take the 1300 pistons and sleeves, what head should i use. I cannot find suitable technical specs on either motor

Definately not. The 1300 was based on the later Sierra block which is much bigger. I think the smallest Sierra engine was a 956cc sold in France, but the 1108cc Renault 4s also use them.
There are differences in seating between cylinder liners. 1400 liners will not seat in the 1108cc block. No idea what the 1300 liners are based on or what they would fit, but not an 850 engine for sure.

R4 850/ 1300
thank for the answer I've a parts brake down from 1965-1970 and from 1971-1975, but I cannot find a workshop manual for the R4, if anyone know of a manual for sale plz let me know, manual for the 850 and 1300/1400. My R4 is in the beginning stages of a major rebuild, engine and body.
