Hello!

First of i`m sorry for my bad English.

Here is my R4, it`s got new floor, canals and the frame has been painted. I have fitted a 1289ccm engine and gearbox from R5 TS, but its not running cause of no spark.

Here is some pictures of it as is now! :)

Really nice, but with such a big engine I would go for froNT disc brakes...

Thank you! :) Yes disc brakes is going to be mounted, but it takes time to find some i Norway, cause there is little R4 parts here. But is R5 disc brakes suitable on the R4? :)

Hello, welcome to the forum.

This is looking very good indeed.

I don't know if it's of any use but if all else fails you can buy replacement electronic ignition kits that fit these engines.

If it is ducellier points type Distributor Then conversion will be using same kit although they may vary on internal or external points adjustable
Looking at pictures it looks like 1400ts engine can you post more pictures of distributor and how you've got electric connections to coil and maybe we can help further

I`m not living were the car is at the time, but I could take some pictures and write a little around the problem to the weekend. The man i bought the engine from said it came from a R5 TS, but what is the difference of 1289ccm and the 1400 engine? :)

Here is Two pictures of the engine, is it a 1289 TS or 1400 TS? :)

Hi Torkil,
Welcome here.

As to your question on the electronic ignition.
The 123 ignition that der Fransoze sells comes with a manuel how to install and what curve you need to set for the engine you have.
http://www.leenapk.nl/manuals/123RENA4.pdf

On the aluminium motor id plate just above the oil filter it says your motor number
That number corespondents with a setting for the ignition.

The 123 will fit to your cleon motor with no trouble.

You can also buy it online in the Netherlands and it will cost you less then what Fransoze charges http://www.leenapk.nl/123Ren4AV.html?category_id=71

You can also go for the cheaper alternatives from petronix and accuspark. Those work with a Hall sensor and a magnet fitted in the original distributor

this wikipedia page gives you some information to the different types of cleon fonte engines
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Cléon-Fonte_engine

Lyke till.

Hilsen, Robert

Reason I questioned it is 5 ts was available UK 1289 up til 80/81 then 5 speed ts tx 1397 the 82on wards had electronic renix ignition so wondered if you were trying to wire that up
Looking at type of fly wheel I would say that is 75/76 year 1289 with 170 mm clutch rather than 180 mm fitted after that crank bolt spacing may prevent you interchanging with 180 mm
What made me question engine size is the manifold and bolt down airfilter inlet I have only seen standard to 1397
I would be tempted to get it running on points setup first b4 upgrading

The spark problem is now fixed. It was bad contact in ground to the distributor.. Thank you all for good help here. But then the next problem came, the fuel pump has dried out and the membrane was rotten. I have ordered a new pump from Franzose, so hope that will fix it. :)

Started to clarify some panels for painting, removing all the old paint.

Also found some old skies for the roof of the R4, this is a "must" on old cars in Norway.. :D

With a new fuel pump in the R4 it fired right up! :) Now it just need`s a adjustment of the carb..

My dad bought this R5 GTL this week. It look`s ugly on the outside, but we looked under it on the lift and its compleetly rust free!! It has only gone 50 000 kilometers. It needs new shock absorbers and brake discs. But it all followed the car.

The plan is to make it road legal as fast as possible and use it as it is, a bit shabby! :) Washed of 16 years of dust and it looked a bit better after that. :)
