Hi everyone
Firstly, to be honest I don't have a Renault 4. The last time I drove one I'd just passed my test and that was 25 years ago, but I'm about to be spending a lot more time with them.
Renault are launching their own TV channel - much like The Audi Channel on Sky. The team I work with are making all sorts of Renault related programmes to go on this channel but it won't hit the satellites until September, however some of the first shows made are available to view here
if you navigate to the Entertainment section you'll find some shows called 'Me & My Renault', where there's a short film about Nick Hewer (Alan Sugar's left hand man on The Apprentice) and his adventures in his R4. Some of the films we are making are not bad - EIISSMS -some are! (they're very corporate and advertorial)
Cutting to the chase; I've already made a 50 minute documentary all about the Renault 5 (which will soon be on the website) and I've now been asked to make one about the 4, starting now. It will be a genuine enthusiasts film exploring not only the concept, engineering and manufacture of the 4, but also why this car was so important to society in the 1960s, and why it continues to be so warmly regarded. For this I wll be persuing R4 enthusiasts on both sides of the channel - so I may well end up pointing a camera at one or two of you out there some time in the near future - as long as you're up for it of course.
There's no chance a major channel would ever commission a programme so narrowly focused on one car model so this is a fairly unique opportunity to do this great car justice with a really warm and informative film. So - watch this space!
