Renault 4 - violent judder in first gear

I have a Renault 4 GTL Clan (1988) LHD which I use in France as my runabout. Six weeks ago, it developed a violent shudder in first gear as I attepted to move off. I have taken it to my local garage and he has checked it through thoroughly(engine mountings OK etc) and has fitted a new 3piece clutch assembly . However, the problem still persists and he as well as me is lost for ideas. There is no evidence of water ingress or oïl leaks and the old clutch was in reasonable condition.
Can anyone help me please.

Check to see if the engine mounting bracket is in place. See this thread: http://www.renault4.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=1914&highlight=judder+bracket (the last post has links to another thread with photos of the bracket).

I'd be checking the left hand engine mount more carefully too, its very difficult to check and it has a separate piece that can be loose or broken!

many thanks for all your advice. I have now ordered a reconditioned gearbox from Moteur-occasion.com. I found this company from the "Clementine" website and I hope that this will solve the problem.

Please be sure of controlarm bushes. shocks and engine mounts before doing a gearbox!

what about a drive shaft going ?
