Renault 4...what have I got.?

Its been a while since I was last on having bought a 'barn find' French registered 1985 Renault 4 TL. I'm at the stage of recommissioning and finding the various models a little confusing. My best guess, based on the tag in the engine bay is that it is a Billancourt (B1B D 7/07) 845cc engined model 1123 with all round drum brakes. The date of first registration is 06/09/1985 (carte gris) but there is a Renault sticker next to the vin plate which states 1986. Even trying to locate a basic service kit has been confusing as there seem to be a variety of different options for oil and air filter based on the physical size of the air filter and even the thread size for the oil filter. Can someone confirm that I have correctly identified my Renault 4..that would be a great starting point. Thank you

The stickers is for the Model Year, I have a Savane registred in September 1986 with the 1987 sticker.
I think the MY for Renault started in August of the previous year.
The car is a 1123, 845cc Billancourt engine and drum brakes on all wheels.

The "model year" for Renaults starts in the previous August, which explains the "1986" for an October 1985 car.
For oil filter, you need a Unipart GFE 210 or equivalent. There are two spindle sizes, the thread for the GTLs being slightly bigger (yours is a TL).

Early 1108cc engines (GTL) had 3/4 UNF thread, later from approx 1984 had a 20mm thread at the oil filter. I buy mine from Mr Auto, he has a good selection.

Thanks for your replies, I was struggling with the engine size initially, convinced I had an 1108. what is the HP/KW output of this engine my options seem to be 29/21 and 34/25

Hi George
You're welcome!
Can you send me your email address via the 'Conversations' system?

You should have the later M20 thread oil filer (Purflux LS932 or equivalent), if the engine has not been replaced with a pre-84 one.
Air filter selection from part numbers only has always been a hassle, better take measurements of your old element to be sure.

Thanks Angel, the airfilter had part number A194 on it and the remains of a label was attached to the oil filter with LS169B but I ordered the mahle OC11 which was the equivalent but I note has the 3/4 16 unf thread as allegedly does the LS169B?

Yes, the LS169B filter has 3/4" thread. My fault, 845 engines even after 1984 were equipped with the early oil filter.

Your air filter is Purflux A194 equivalent to Coopers Fiaam FL6570, Mahle/Knecht LX144, Champion W123/606 etc. Rather common, so easy to find.

Ha ha...I now have both oil filters after a crisis of confidence. I'm out in France and bought several parts from Vehicules-anciens.fr easy site to navigate. Parts actually just arrived today and typically, after nearly 2 weeks of glorious 'work outside weather' its grey wet and miserable (Tarn-81) so waiting for it to warm up again. I have some rather elderly Yamaha's begging for attention in my workshop.
