Renault 5 unwilling to idle. Help please

I recently bought a R5 1.4 Campus 94 from auction as it looked lovely, on the way home i realised it had a problem idling although on the motorway it was superb. I have canged the throttle boby and injector (for second hand ones) and it just seems the same. Also renewed some of the vacuum pipes still no difference.
Does anyone have any ideas please.

Hi superspud and welcome.

I'm likely to be of no help here, but I like a chat, and if you've been replacing vacuum hoses then you probably have a fair idea of what you're doing so it will be fun to work towards a solution.

Having read the other newish Renault threads on this forum, the idle control valve is the first thing to spring to mind. I gather it can get blocked, or can kind of stick. Apparantly it can be taken apart and cleaned up to make it work again, although sadly the article I was planning to point you towards seems to have disappeared. (Come on Chris - stop moving things around).

I'd be inclined to mess with that bit. It seems to be hella-unreliable.

Have you tried that? If that is the issue I'd be interested to know. If not, keep us posted with your findings and maybe we can help you figure it out.

:clementi:

There is not a lot the DIYer can do with these. It's worth paying a Renault garage for a diagnosis on their machine, and then you can go off and fit the correct bits yourself.
My money would be on that an air leak is causing the problem and the two most likely culprits would be the manifold gasket and/or the 'hot spot' gasket (the gasket between the inlet and exhaust manifolds).

Thanks

I will try to get it to a renault specialist but they seem to be a bit thin on the ground around here!
Thanks for the advice up to now.
I will let you know how i get on.
BTW thanks for the welcome :D
