Hi guys in this forum,

I'm not from UK, however i need this forum and all the help i can get to get my car restored.

Iv gotten hold of an 1963 to 1964 ( this i got on the local registrations card ) , the chassis plate stamped on an oval plate : R1124 2346S

1) is there any registry for Renault 4 where i can get my Vin plate and Chassis plate checked to get a history of this?

2) I am having difficulty finding certain parts , iv got lots of parts still in my shopping cart : https://www.franzose.de/en/Renault/ , however certain parts are not available for this model, such as the rear side windows popout latches, Renault 4 Super Logo at the back and as well as the foldable rear bumpers are gone.

3) im also trying to keep this project as original as possible but as well as thinking of possibilities of upgrading the current 800+CC engine to something better that can keep up with modern traffic reasonably, i want to actually drive this comfortably on the streets and not just keep in my garage for show.

i will update more photos soon, as its on my phone, i need to transfer it to my laptop first.
any help appreciated ! im looking for the above spares for R4S if you guys have it as well.

Cheers!
regards
Tobias

The Renault 4 Super is historically important because it was the first R4 with the 845cc engine (which served us faithfully until 1987). For this reason, if you care about such things, you might consider leaving the engine as-is. If you are only thinking of driving "on the streets" it should be OK for anything up to about 75kph and the acceleration is quite good. If by "streets", however, you mean "freeways" . . . .

It was only available for two model years (as you say, 1963 and 1964) and got up to about 20,000 cars produced so at 2346 yours is an early one.

The Renault Classic Car Club (they have a website) should be able to help with precise dating.

Try Palace de l'ancienne (website) in northern France for 4L bits. They seem to specialise in secondhand bits for earlier models.

A very warm welcome to this forum! Can't wait to see some photos. I think you shouldn't upgrade the engine, you will take out 'the soul' of the car replacing it. :waving:

Yes , I think it’s historically important as well , hence I’m doing my outmost to do the best I can to restore this car as original condition as I can yet enjoy driving it . This is the picture of my engine , thanks for the 2 websites i’d Do a check on this and see what I can get. I see this as an important challenge as I feel that this is a really rare car that I need to get it back to much better days . Now I have stripped the whole car to do a total restoration and bodywork ,labelled all the parts and begin sourcing for repair parts . Is there anywhere I can find original paint codes for Super ?

I wonder what is the original horn badge for this steering wheel .. 5A9F5D5A-1FF0-4D9B-9A2D-19E401776B2D.jpeg5A9F5D5A-1FF0-4D9B-9A2D-19E401776B2D.jpegC9AF8407-142A-4A98-BD55-08656FC5B6D0.jpeg007A77C2-6581-4FAD-B15A-6EE7D07BCD63.jpeg

There's a Renault Workshop manual available here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-l...p_used_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=&sr=

This site has some interesting info:

https://newsdanciennes.com/2013/10/15/modeles-a-la-une-la-renault-4-super/ (Right-click on it for a translation).

There's a badge available here - not sure if it's the right one:

https://piezasautosclasicos.com/anagrama-super-renault-4.html

Early steering wheels come up quite often on French eBay:

https://www.ebay.fr/itm/153552032439

I think the horn would originally have been operated by pushing in the lighting stalk.

Thanks Andy , I will get the workshop manual , for the 2nd site I did translate before that was interesting , for the rear badge it might be the earlier one 1963, the translate page was another type of grey badge which might be 1964. Need to do more homework on that , noted on the horn on the stalk , it’s like the London taxi Austin Fx4 too ... thanks again Andy !’ Just asking , what Renault’s do you own ?

The badge in the Horn looks like an early Austin Mini, or A35, as does the steering wheel come to think of it. So to me looks non original.
The catches for the rear windows are available on Franzoze 2017-18 catalogue page 0713 middle left. If you have a spare window set, hinges and glass, I would be interested. Regards Edwin
Great car!!! As always, keep it original. Ensures historic validity, and value. You don't need speed in Singapore!

Ok will check it out ! Btw anyone knows what are the main difference between 845cc engine and 852cc .... needed to be precise so I can get all my repair kits for the engine

852cc was a bored-down version of the larger 1108 and 956 engines. It's a completely different engine from the "Ventoux" 845cc.

I have a set of early pistons/liners (floating 14mm pin) and can find most engine parts here if you are intersted.

Thank you!!
Am i trying to Machine / Fabricate the Hinges , and i will probably try to reproduce another 5 sets ( both Left And Right Hinges with the Glass ) But i think Glass is easy for you to do another in your country, as shipping the glass might be abit risky but can be done. will let you know soon!

If there are any original bumpers left, they'll probably be in France. They're incredibly rare, though, and will be very expensive - not to mention postage costs! Will let you know if I find one.
