Does anybody know if it is possible to find a bulb that flashes orange for the indicator function and clear for the auxilary headlight function for the older round indicator / auxiliary light units?

I have clear round ones on my car but the indicator is clear so I am just wondering if others have experience. Malcolm I vaguely recall when you brought Ornella into England, the indicators units went from clear to orange - did you simply disconnect auxiliary light function?
Thanks for all advvice

You can get orange bulbs for the clear lens. You might need the single filament bulb holder for orange bulbs, or use orange bulb paint. I moved the sidelight to the headlamp. There's a post about how to do that in the tech tips section.

The law (in the U.K.) requiring indicators to be amber came into force in September 1965, although many vehicle manufacturers implemented the change well before that. Previous to this, some cars were fitted with clear 5/21 watt bulbs at the front, where the 5 watt filament was the side light and the 21 watt the indicator light. As amber side lights weren't (and aren't) legal, the manufacturers couldn't use amber bulbs or lenses, so some redesigning took place; in some cases side lights were moved into the headlight unit (popular with continental cars) and in others the original sidelight bulb fitting was expanded to incorporate TWO bulbs, one with a white & one with an amber lens (popular with British cars of the 1960s-see older and newer BMC cars & Fords) At the rear of cars the same rules stopped indicators showing a red light (VERY confusing, given that brake lights are red and of the same wattage)

The important thing is that one needs to be safe: sidelight must be white, indicators must be amber (for any car registered after September 1965) Headlamps may be either white or "selective" yellow and (obviously) must be "matched" (which means you can't have one yellow and one white headlamp.....!)
