Rudi Edwards' wife Vicky contacted me this week with the sad news that Rudi died following his long illness. I have included her letter below.

We knew Rudi on the forum as roodini. He joined us at the start of 2006 with a query about distributors, and we quickly nicknamed his R4 'the pornmobile' and had him fitting a 1.3 engine. He found himself at the core of our community, keeping us entertained with his Yorkshire wit, and helping many members along the way. He was in email contact with many of the forum members, and met up with some in person.

On behalf of the forum I’d like to send our deepest sympathy to Vicky and the family. We’ll all miss Rudi.

Vicky is planning to keep Rudi’s R4, and hopefully we’ll see her on the forum so we can do all we can to help keep the pornmobile on the road.

Hi Malcolm and Steve,
I hate to be the bearer of bad news and I seem to have had a lot to dish out just recently, Sorry let me explain this is Rudi's wife Vicky and I apologise for not contacting you guys sooner. Rudi died on the 18th of August of a splenic hemorrhage as you were aware he'd been ill for a long time and in the last few weeks of his life had, had to suffer 2 lots of brain surgery and all kinds of medical problems. In that time he'd managed to escape from hospital and spend some time at home with me and the kids.

He even managed to fix the fan on the car and do some work on the rear end of it although the effort nearly killed him but he was always a determined man, the same evening I'd had to drag him in from outside as he'd gone to sleep in the Renault think it was about 11 at night when I finally managed to persuade him to come in!

I have to thank you both for your friendship and help I know it meant allot to Rudi and he used to drive me crazy the amount of time he spent on the forum when I could have done with him watching the kids (well stopping them fighting) whilst I was busy cleaning, cooking, etc. But he adored his car and chatting on the forum gave him endless pleasure so I didn't mind to much!

You will here from me again as I have now inherited the porn mobile but at the moment am driving round in the rav4 for ease I only passed my test mid July and going down 2nd from 3rd in the 4 is for some reason very hit and miss for me well more miss than hit actually but practice will make perfect.

I met Rudi a couple of times, albeit briefly, and he was one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. He and Vicky were a lovely couple, and so young looking. I mistook Vicky for one of the girls the first time I called round to see him.

As you know from his posts Rudi always joked about his operations and his long periods in hospital. In his last post at the beginning of August he casually mentioned "a spot of brain surgery" but only because it was stopping him driving. At no time did he sound the least bit sorry for himself. He was incredibly brave to go through the rounds of chemo, marrow transplant and numerous operations.

Vicky, we wish you and the girls all the best for the future. Rudi has set you all a fine example of facing life's misfortunes with strength and fortitude. Please keep us updated with news about the Pornmobile. If you need help there are plenty here who will do what they can.

I also met Rudi - must have been over two years ago. We had been messaging one another as he was interested in a 'hot-up' kit for his 4. He had dropped Vicky off in Peterborough and made his way to my mum's house near Duxford where I had a R5 that I was breaking. The first thing I noticed was this box of what looked like bicycle spanners and I wondered how he was going to remove the parts from the car. To my amazement he did quite well with the help of some of my tools! He was very determined and enthusiastic and it was very inspiring meeting him. He told me about his illness and said he would not let it get the better of him. We chatted away about Renaults and motorbikes and promised to meet up again whenever he was my way again. Sadly that wasn't to be but we did keep in touch by email and through the forum.
He will be sadly missed.

never met him but ive read a lot of his posts
always was helpful and a good laugh

really sorry to hear this news and you have my deepest sympathy
also glad your keeping the pornmobile

I also never met Rudi but, inspired by his enthusiasm under such difficult circumstances, I had reason to send him a little note to tell him to keep his chin up and wish him luck when the then latest storm clouds were gathering.

Vicky, I think you will know that we are all thinking of you and your children at this very sad and difficult time.

Ian
