just thought these pics might be interesting, of the R4 i'm restoring....my main concern is the hole in the chassis towards the front...i'm hoping its not going to give me too much pain.
I read somewhere about a piece of foam strategically placed near the rear suspension mount....is it possible to cut a suitably large access/drain hole to extract it? (& where exactly is it?). I had exactly the same problem last year when i restored a Bedford CF/Landcruiser: that had 2 bits of foam in the front arches.
Any thoughts on the task i've got?....ade

The bit of foam is even more annoying than it first seems. It's expanding foam (sort of stuff builders use) and is there to try and seal up some holes in the back of the suspension mount through to where the mud sits.

Wouldn't bother getting rid of it (it's closed cell so doesn't trap moisture) though a hole in the back of the floor would do the job. Main thing would be sealing up those holes.

Looks like it's gone in some of the normal spots. Though which bit is that in the second from bottom photo? Oh I see - front of the floor photographed from the wheelarch Worth cutting away a bit of floor to repair that chassis member - http://www.renault4.co.uk/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/209/
