Scrapping a car

I have a Peugeot 405 that's currently taking up space in the driveway; I really need to get rid of it this week. It's driveable but has a dead battery, and the tax, MOT and insurance have expired. I've had no interest when trying to sell it, so I guess the last option is to weigh it in.

I don't know anything about this, do you have any advice on how to get an OK deal? Are there any parts worth removing to sell separately?

ring up those guys that take MOT failures who come and take things on flat beds?

If you can be bothered, cut off the cat - they can be weighed in seperately for pretty good £££.

Otherwise just see what local yards offer. Price of scrap is reasonably decent at the moment so a 405 should net £150 - £200 I'd have thought

Jump start and drive it to the scrapyard, take the log book and they'll stamp it for you and get it sent off. Dont ring someone up they'll give you a shit price for it, the cars too old to have a cat.

The best way to get the best price is to to ring around the local breakers yards and if d the best price first! If u just turn up they pay crap. The price of scrap metal is at an all time high, I'm getting a £175 a ton in my area.

Can I just add that maybe there's a bit of confusion re the term 'scrapyard'. I have taken a few cars to the local scrap metal dealer, they just weigh you on the weighbridge and pay you by weight. The other type of scrapyard is what you would call a breaker and they may recycle your car, they do make there prices up on the day as Pepper suggests. Either way take your log book and they will register it as scrapped.

Sorry for the confusion, but ring around every time! We have several breakers/scrap yards around me and if you don't ring ahead you'll get a rubbish price on the gate!

You'd be looking at £250-£300 by doing the dirty deed yourself!

Perhaps, but unfortunately I'm in a hurry to get rid of it. Still, I'm going to remove a few choice parts for extra cash via ebay.
