Is it possible to fit rear seatbelts into a Renault 4? My previous one didn't have them and I am looking to buy another, but obviously with a young son they are an essential. If I don't find one with rear seat belts I guess the only alternative is to fit them - but is this possible??

It's possible - on GTLs there should be mountings either side of the tailgate, under the rubber mat just behind the seats in the centre of the car, and under the rubber mat on the side of the wheelarch (check that one for corrosion). There are photos of the mountings on http://www.renault4.co.uk/forum/about126.html&highlight=seat+belt+mounting

The original rear belts are fixed rather than inertia reel. I'm not sure exactly where you'd buy seatbelts, but they are pretty universal - motor factors or classic car parts suppliers should have them. The only thing to watch on the Renault 4 is the seatbelt might be longer than some other installations.

Seat belts are available from securon http://www.securon.com/ or motor factors.
The model recomended for R4 (264) is possibly not long enough for a baby seat but OK for most forward facing seats. If you need a longer belt use a front one and cut the extra loop off. I dare say securon would put together whatever you needed.

I still haven't put the seatbelts in the back of my R4 (pre gtl so I need to fit mounting points) but now we have moved on to a forward facing seat it can be fitted in the front with the standard seatbelt.
