Seeking adhesive butyl soundproofing matting

I am currently in Portugal, but traveling soon. I orered Silent Coat 40 from Amazon, only to realize they either have no intent to deliver on time (as at the time I enquired they were already 5 days later than offered.), or possibly don't even have the material in stock. All I have found in Portugal is Bitumen mat. Is there a butyl mat brand, I can readily find, in Spain france or Italy? I will be passing through these countries in about 10 days. Any brand names you know are available in Toulouse, Verona or Budapest would be a great help.

Hi Seph.I haven't got any brand-names for you,but I used cork-material which will not hold water, but acts pretty good as sound-proofing inside body sides
and roof-section of our F4 .You can at car-parts outlets in various thicknesses 1mm.2mm/3,5mm etc 50cm wide 200cm long. It is meant to cut your own
gaskets where there is no readymade avail.

I cut out approx sizes to fit onto inside of body.Inside/between profiles. Used a pencil to outline "silouette"then brushed on contact-glue to body plus the
mating surface of cork.. if you smear on glue within the pencil-markings you'll avoid messy glue showing outside of cork...
NOTE: Do Not wait (as per usual methode with contact-glue) glue onto body within pencil-lines ,soon as you've pasted on glue to cork, line it up and bang
it in place. If you place one edge of it first you will have no problem "rolling" it on and pushing on against body with other hand-that way you will have no
wrinkles or bubbles even in double curves..
In Really tight double-curves you bend it outwards/towards you -line it up against your pencilmarks and use Onee finger to stick it on IN THE MIDDLE of the
curve FIRST rest will then cling nicely to curve.
I used a new/unused/dry paint-roller to press/roll the cork against the body (not mine for bleeding-sake!-the Car-body  Afterwards it can easily be spray
painted or rolled to blend with orig.paint so won't be too visible..
I watered out some paint as you dont want it to load-up the cork too much, just enough to make it cover and blend in.. I lightly rolled mine on-It looks like it
was meant to be there...

It has made a huge improvement inside. The boominess is pretty much gone and it's possible to have a conversation while driving.

If you were to cover such large areas with BITU-MEN you have to install a BITU-RBO :artist: to move all that weight along-this cork-stuff is much lighter and it
won't sag off inside the roof-area when its hotting up in there.. Have a nice trip! :waving: -Reid.

Well...

I like it. It's thinking outside of the box Reid. And being here in Portugal, I should be able to get all the cork I need. Did you prefer a certain thickness? Do you have a glue preference you could share? I might just spray a clear coat on it an enjoy the look.

Hi again-I used a combination of 2 and 3,5mm. 2mm where it would fit into nooks and crannies,3,5mm onto flatter surfaces. You could use any/
all contact-glue as long as you glue both mating surfaces.Be warned though-You need the proper one-Not water-based, which forms a "membrane"
that could be prone to lifting off-especially underside of roof. If you get a high from working with it you are on the right track,so best working inside
car on a cloudy day or in the shade. It dries quickly, and the trick here is to place cork soon as poss for that chance of adjustment. If it has started to
dry before you do it is prettey much stuck on first contact. Then you'd have to rip it off, roll/rub off all glue remnants in roof, cut new and start again.
You can dilute the glue (read on box) to buy a little more mounting time.but then it will be even more runny so can leave a ruddy mess...

Be sure to get out of car to draw some fresh air ever so often or you Will find yourself staring onto something only you can see, laughing out load and
turning your head to see who's daft enough to laugh at you... I did! :vsad: -Reid.
