hi I live in France where 4Ls do not have rust problems, gives you a good head start. I can not find a slow running mixture adjustment? The idle adjusment is obvious but the lumpy running leads me to belive that the mixture is rich! Any one know the answer? Float level adjustment perhaps? Dave Thomas.

Is the mixture screw not in the normal spot at the base of the carburettor on the side closest to the inner wing? If not it's always somewhere at the base of the carb and identifiable by the spring on the outside.

Lumpy running could also be timing, points, tappet adjustment, air leak. If the mixture screw is about 1.5 turns from fully in it would be OK.

If you have the Zenith 32IF7 carb, the idle mixture screw is pretty well hidden from view. Search a little on this forum, there was somewhere a detailed guide of how to find it :-D

Hi Malcom, Thanks for reply, I don't understand why I can't find the screw in the usual place as you rightly describe. I am going to remove the carb. in order to view it properly. Then I will bother to fit a repair kit which I should be able to get from our local 4L specialist. Thanks for help and interest.Engine runs very well otherwise and car is suprisingly quick. I bought it as a stop gap after a drunken Frog wrote my normal car off for me. Think I will just stick with it now as it is such fun! Dave T.

Angel, thanks for reply, I am going to remove the carb in order to find the screw. Want to fit a recon kit anyway. Got used to brakes now, but will fit discs when the weather has cooled off a bit. Thanks again, Dave T.
