starter motor wiring

The thick black lead connects to the large central terminal in the middle of the picture. The other end of this lead should be connected directly to the positive terminal of the battery. The thinner lead, also with a "O" terminal, should also be connected to the same terminal. This lead carries power to items that are not controlled by the ignition switch. The wire with the spade terminal should be connected higher of the two smaller terminals. This lead should only become live when the key is turned to the "start" position and it activates the solenoid, which connects the thick lead's 12 volt supply to the starter motor.

I would suggest checking the accuracy of the power at each wire with a quality multi-meter first.
