Ticking noise and burning oil

I think you are probably right Angel. I will replace the exhaust and check the manifold gasket, and see what happens.

I had a problem on a 6 cylinder P4 Rover many years ago with a noise like this. It proved to be a head gasket blow between no 1 cylinder and fresh air. The rest of the gasket sealed okay and hence no water in the oil, etc, just this infuriating tick that went at 1/6th of engine speed.

A head gasket change fixed it.

Everything is fixed now. All the problems were caused by the cracked exhaust frontpipe letting out too much engine noise, or by things I'd changed while trying to identify the problem!
