Upper Front Ball Joint

I've just got my first home leave for many months and what better way to spend it than being freezing cold under a rusty, damp, slow car.

Imagine my horror to find the upper front ball joint looks dodgy. The rubber has split a bit on the left hand one. Will this be an MOT fail?

The joint seems solid with no squeaks and the car steers fine. It's not an expensive part but it looks like a bit of a mission to change.

Any help greatly appreciated

What can I tell you... I was about to change front left bearing when I saw that my upper ball joint is gone, track rod end, CV boot... while I was at it I decided to change the brake pads. The snow and the cold weather is in the way since the car is outside.
