Afternoon everyone,

Having some trouble finding the correct brake shoes and cylinders for the car. It's MOT is due Thursday and it looks like I'll have to get it to fail in order to gain some time to fix a small hole in the passenger well, but also to source these drum brake parts.

Does anyone know of a good website (preferably UK based for quick delivery) where I can get these parts?

Many thanks, kind regards

Ryan

Hi Ryan
Are your brakes Bendix or Girling (a photo would be great)? And could you post a picture of your oval plate?
This is the Bendix system on my GTL (is yours a GTL?)

Here are images from the mechanic, I have found with EUspares a TRW GSK1011 EAN 3322936600350 for 74.72, or I have also seen a Brembo Kit and Fit K68011 EAN 8020584076538

Do you think either of these would fit? I was told that I need it to be only 1 lever, bendix with cylinders

What do you think?

Regards

Ryan

Definately Bendix. Quite often the more lazy motor factors will need a reg number and that won't work for Spanish cars. Try giving them B521 LLP - Ermintrude had Bendix rear brakes.

I normally source stuff from e-bay but it does tend to take a few days delivery. Be careful to order Bendix and not Girling as they aren't interchangeable.

Throwing the cat amongst the pigeons, for a late FASA built car although yes your going to suffer shipping times would it not be easier to source the parts in spain ( for FASA) or France /Europe (for french/non spanish builds).
Its just seems waiting on uk supplies to supply seems to take as long as the wait from larger european spares places to ship correct bits, not wait to see what arrives at the mechanics to find it may be wrong to then have the further wait and garage bills.
Its just in the realms of 4 ownership in the UK the pool of uk available spares seems to be diminishing with the lower number of road going cars, run of the mill motor factors wont stock what they don’t sell if it not on the shelve already wheras speaking to european specialists in part supply for 4s will more than lightly have in stock. UK and European businesses have already had some inadvertent consequences over the past few years, cant see dealing with a european seller direct would be more expensive or time consuming than waiting for the UK business to ask probably one of the same sellers.
For brake parts here in Spain I usually use ‘piezasautoclassicos’

If your car had the self-adjusting Bendix brakes that most of our GTLs have (like the ones in my photo and the links you posted), it'd be easy to find the parts in the UK.
It looks from the photo as if your rear shoes are not self-adjusting - do your rear brakes have the square manual adjusters on the backplate?
For 180 drums - which I imagine your car has - the PR900 parts book gives the number 7701202923 for shoes (not self-adjusting). These shoes were also fitted to some 5s and the R1181 R6.
These are on eBay:
They match the part number, and seem to have the right holes in the right places - if you send the link to your mechanic, he'll be able to decide.
He'll also need to measure the cylinders - if they're 22mm, there are plenty on eBay. For example:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354189879634?fits=Car+Make:Renault&hash=item52775ca952:g:2iUAAOSw4~1i4cQB&amdata=enc:AQAHAAAAsPCjJid7WRTovK2oMfcadzl7KIXKgp/seYPi7AqNgdGiBxQfQM86lk1WqERlil1vsou6dYI8AhVWWRxax83diMvGkzQjJK7b8H8QrUdjbKScjoLFhNDV6djlq1dC9vPYDeyoTLi4ASCi92AEmpb3lFrUyalGXfFnYyW/YCs8zPPv2EIpCqKV9accyVTdNV97MVRPvsA91sHGLd9X/mzAn8kTSUW3ebYHaNbrs9zXJDBq|tkp:Bk9SR_KPxqv4YA (They were also fitted to some 5s and the R1181 R6).
Please get more opinions on this - I'm not saying these are the right shoes or cylinders, but hopefully the links will help your mechanic; ultimately, it's his decision and responsibility.
Good luck!
