Warning lights

While working on my apparently faulty fuel gauge I found the printed circuit on the panel has a diode between the oil pressure light and the water overheat light, if oil pressure is low both lights come on but not vice versa. I seem to remember a post about this a few months ago. I also found the temp warning light coming on after 2 mins driving, the sender unit had a short and was hotter than the engine, something to look out for.

A belated thanks bantamallon. I remembered the oil pressure and temperature warning lights were connected in some way but the manual didn't mention how.
