Job done for today, waterpump was noisy and took the opportunity to replace it, change the belts, refill with the correct coolant and install a temperature sender.
Next steps install the temp guage somewhere in the car, any suggestions as to where. Tested it and it works well.

Changed the fuel filter as well as the old one was not that old but manky

if you don't use the ashtray there is space for 2 50mm. instruments in the ashtray lid. Drill 2 50mm holes side by side push in,connect and Hey-
Presto! you're Officially in the WRC-league.......-Reid.

All installed, decided not to cut the dash apart but drilled a tiny hole to pass the wires through and used sticky pads to attach the guage works a treat. What's the normal operating temp and what temperature should the fan cut in.

fan switch cuts in at 85 c but that is reading on radiator it self
thermostat on engine opens at 83 or 88 depending on make and cross reference used
so it may sit at 90 c b4 fan kicks in
guess 80 c normal driving would be nice
ps factory red light comes on at 115 c at which point carrying on melts the pistons etc

Thanks Paul, I noticed on the guage the fan cut in at 90degsC and dropped the temp to 82degsC, I only tested while parked in the drive, I'll take it for a drive tomorrow and see what the normal running temp is. I've installed this to ensure I don't melt the pistons and trash the engine.

Quick question, I'm sure I've fitted the wrong auxiliary belt, pully to alternator, what is the correct length for a 956cc / 1108cc

This is a job I'd like to do. What gauge and sender unit did you use and did it simply thread in to a pre-threaded hole on the new pump? Nice job, btw.

I bought the kit off ebay, included the sender and guage, the sender winds into the pump with ease, to the old pump the existing lug was stuck fast so decided to fit a new pump and install the sender while it was on the bench, see pictures of my new pump, then I simply put it all back together and wired it up as per the instructions, took me a couple of hours to do the pump and belts along with refilling the coolant and another hour to install and wire the guage up. Any questions just ask away

Mine gauge stays at 85(ish)°, rarely goes over 90° in winter time.

In summertime is more at 90° and can get up to 100° if road is slightly uphill or traffic is high.
Once it gets up to 110° when i was stuck in traffic jam in town Split and it was 40+in shade (at sun it was even more)
At that point i managed to get out of traffic jam and start to drive in different direction. Temp get down relatively fast back to 90°

Noticed during summer time when temp is high i get better cooling if i left more space between me and car in front of me.
