What engine oil for high mileage engine

Oil change time, whats the best engine oil for a 30 year old. 140k mile engine

I use Castrol XL20/50 Richard, but any good quality mineral 20/50 will do the job. I have made a habit of changing the oil and filter at around 3000 miles on all my cars over the years.

140K miles is not high mileage for an R4 engine!

Try to stay away from synthetic oils and fancy additives. 20W-50 or 15W-50 works better than thinner stuff.

Indeed 140k is not high mileage on my first R4 with 303k miles I used mineral 20W50 after 155k miles. Regular oil change and oil filter change (not every R4 engine has an oil filter) around 6000 miles let your engine live longer.
And uhm according to the si system 140K is very very cold.

As has already been said, regular oil & oil filter changes are the best way to ensure an engine's long life. I've always halved the interval recommended by the manufacturer, & my Citroën ancienne covered 250,000 miles, sounding as sweet as a nut when I parted with it! The cost of a filter & some oil aren't much, when compared with an engine that runs perfectly for ages. I use Castrol Magnetec 10W/40, without any problems.
