Hi,do some one now the wheel measurements for a R4 standard wheel,i am interested to find out the Pitch Circle Diameter,i like to fit the old version citroen AX 3 stud wheels!

Hi, there are absolutely other rims on the Citroën AX. The hole spacing on the AX is about 8,5 cm, while the R4 hole spacing is more than 11 cm. The hole diameters and seat form is different too. You can change the Renault 4 and Renault 6 rims only. All other three-hole rims (Renault 4CV, 12, Dacia, Oltcit, Citroën, etc.) are unusable. You can´t interchange even a rim from early to later R4 model, if the later model has the front disc brakes. Good luck and greetings from Prague. Pavel
 
Unfortunately, I don´t understand French. Who can explain me, where is the cause of the horrible destruction? English or German, please.
 
There are two problems.

The early wheels do not have clearance for the bolts that secure the brake disc. The failure is due to the wheel being bent by those bolts and cracking. There are some good photos on the second page of that thread.

Other problem is the early wheels don't have clearance for the brake callipers - these will scrape on the vents in the wheel.
 
A spacer would just make the steering bad - it would have to be at least 10mm thick and have holes to clear the brake calliper bolt heads.

It is possible to fit the early wheels if you use Bendix callipers (NOT Girling). You would need to modify the slider inserts to prevent contact with the wheels. Also it is important to use countersink screws to locate the brake discs (and this requires the hubs to be countersunk). I'm not planning to write a tutorial as it's potentially very dangerous. You'll still need to do your own clearance testing.

Spanish made R4s have GTL style wheels with the early style hub caps. Those would be much easier to fit. I would put safety above style.

A picture says more than a thousand words. Only one word comes to mind, though. Fortunately Renault seems to have changed the design of the "Fourgonette" rims slightly to provide enough room for disk brakes and all associated bits and pieces. I believe they cost around 35 Euro's each. They are almost identical to GTL rims lacking oval holes and the hole in the middle for the Renault insert
