Where to find flexible brake hoses...?

Hello all

I want to get a full set of brake hoses for Mildred (1972 R4) and have found them available through an ebay seller. The lengths seems a bit different to the ones on her though...

I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a supplier, or if this was the best option?

This subject has come up before. Do a search. You should be able to get hoses from a good motor factor - go for a good make like Quinton Hazell.

Front hose specs

Brake Hose
Total Length: 504 mm, Length: 482 mm, Inner Thread: 3/8x24DF mm, Thread Length 1: 9 mm, Outer Thread: 3/8x24 mm, Thread Length 2: 13 mm

Rear hose specs

Total Length: 266 mm, Length: 248 mm, Inner Thread 1: 3/8x24DF mm, Thread Length 1: 9 mm, Inner Thread 2: 3/8x24DF mm, Thread Length 2: 9 mm
Fitting Position: Rear Axle

Hi all

I got the brake hoses from Sam Centre in Hertford. They had the fronts in stock :D and got the rears the next day. Not the cheapest option, but it meant that I had them in time to get the brakes sorted this weekend. All done now and I have been enjoying taking Mildred for a little spin (on private roads) with her lovely new brakes. Amazingly, she runs and drives very nicely!

Part numbers

Front: BH770326/LH0326 (Delphi/Lockhead)
Rear: PHA157C (TRW)

Sidetracking slightly, I've been bleeding my brakes, 65 R4L, the Kenneth Ball manual advises rear right, then left then front left and finally right, now is that for a left hand drive? The rear pressure adjuster is on the right as is main cylinder.

It really depends on where your master cylinder is. You start from the furthest away (longest brake line length) and then the next furthest, etc.
Sounds like Mr Ball is talking LHD, though I would have thought you'd do front right before left.
For RHD I think it's supposed to be rear left, rear right, front left and front right last of all.
At least that's how I was taught - my R4 workshop manual is silent on the matter.
 
Hi chaps, yes that's the way I was taught too, and it generally works.
 
Thats what I am going with Geoff, brakes really annoy me!
The cylinder replacement onthe front was as everyone pointed out done with slipping the bolts in first then very patiently moving the cylinder onto them, getting the clips back in then shoes with handbrake cable and bottom spring on with spacer plate and finally top mongrel spring. Thats where you need a third hand to hold the back spring in from popping out. Still struggling to get handbrake cables back on at other end, I've gone left cable under steerung rack as that seems the most logical place for it although it could go over the top, not much wriggle room to drag the cable ends into the groove though, brakes argh! Nearly there now, new Firestone 145s which look great, eould have preferred 135 Michelins but couldn't find any.

Ah yes, that top mongrel spring! I used a pair of little vice-grips to hold the bit of spring end that pokes through and stop it from dropping back. You gotta love vice-grips - they like a third or fourth hand
