    Ethanol and fuel hoses

Cohline 2240 is 100% ethanol compatible - ie can be used with 100% ethanol, plus any other fuels. Highly rcommended by many classic car buffs, and lovely to use as well. Used '8mm' (actually 7.3mm but a perfect fit) on my Scimitar. For those who don't know - ethanol is the petrol additive...

Good work! I used some car tyres cut into mudguard-shapes for one trailer I had

    Info on fuel consumption

It could be a loose rubber hose or one with a hole in the side, or the carburettor could be overflowing if the smell is at the front of the car, not the rear. The carburettor float valve can fail so that petrol gets too high in the carb. Feel around the hoses and the carb until you find a...

    Info on fuel consumption

If you can smell petrol when it is running (or when it is parked) then you could have a leak which may explain the excessive consumption. Also look for wet hoses and wet at the bottom of the fuel tank. I had an Alfa Romeo that hosed the engine down with petrol as I was driving :o

    Hesitant when accelerating

I'd go with mojobaby first - when you push your foot down a bit, the vacuum advance unit moves back (less vacuum within the manifold) so the timing becomes less advanced (fewer degrees before Top Dead Centre) compared to when cruising. If timing is a bit retarded to start with, it could just...

I've ordered a new chassis for the F4 van!

I wouldn't worry too much about the value Malcolm - I was paid £4000 for my tatty old F6 after a little pressure on the insurers - 'average condition' they said :p

    GTL Compression

Like angel said; it's amazing also how much better the engine can run when tappet clearances are adjusted correctly!

Ronnie the Renault and the tick over blues.

Not likely to be hoses too large. Pressure is determined by the pump and flow at the carb end only. I think you still need to unbolt the manifold(s) and check for flatness. A small deviation from dead flat can cause gasket to let air slip past.

Torque setting Front drive shaft nut?

I agree with Brian, unsure of spec but I had one come loose, then just tightened bl@@dy tight with a breaker bar & no problems after :D EDIT: Haynes says 90lbft, but that sounds less tight than I did it up to so keep an eye on it if you tighten to spec. Ade: you maybe should buy my Haynes...

Ronnie the Renault and the tick over blues.

If the carburettor seems to be clean and good but the engine still doesn't run well, it may be worthwhile taking the inlet/exhaust manifold off and checking that the manifold face that bolts onto the cylinder head is perfectly flat. Mine had distortion (at least 0.5mm difference between...

Nice tyres  Although looking traditional and posh, the Brooks saddles are a bit hard on the bottom - a cheaper padded one might be better received :dontknow:

https://www.franzose.de or https://www.melun-retro-passion.com are good choices - otherwise the usual online auction sites seem to do the job as well.

Probably needs taking apart to properly power-jet through the tiny tiny holes and channels with carb cleaner - partly to make sure something comes out the other end, and also to clean them. Spraying down the throat means almost all the spray gets burned by the engine, which isn't the aim here...

Sounds like the carb needs a good internal clean - the little jet holes are probably gunked up with corrosion or gel from evaporated fuel/ethanol/water.
