Hi gang-sitting here with my good buddies Jim Beam and Jack Daniels listening to some good old vinyls
I came to think if there's some stereo-heads on here..
-Had to dig out my old trusty Nemo amps as my Onkyo M 510 has developed a breaker-circuit issue..
there goes my "fun-money" for the foreseable future.. Listening most fittingly to "Oh-well" old blues
on full blast. How on earth did they make us switch to digitaliis ?? perfect sound forever?? Bullsheit!

Would Love to hear from any of you guys if half interessted in any Stero/Hi-Fi.The quirkier the better!

What are you listening to? music and equipment please (just for the Porn of it!)
Me? I'm rying to have an open ear for any music but my backbone in music is def.The Blues (Uk & US)
I've started collecting vinyl-records again and must say they've come a long way in terms of general sound-quality.In many cases almost or better than the Japanese virgin-vinyl presings of the 80's/90's

I don't have the same affection for vinyl being brought up on Dansette record players stacked up high with ex-coffee bar records. Even when we progressed to a 'proper' hi-fi stacking system, I never felt that the sound quality ever matched the clutter and complication, and definitely was a poor comparison to the soundproof booths found in some hi-fi stores.

So we have a simple CD player in the house and another in the workshop where I can play Carly Simon, Carole King, James Taylor and Les Mis loudly and to my heart's content.
 
Hi there Paul-those sound-booths at the instrument/record shop introduced me to recorded sound back in the day.
I can still remember the mossgreen huntonite walls in there Two plasticy duotone speakers hig up so that we coudn't
quite reach... Usually sweaty and with no air,but still I spent hours and hours in there Thats if I could sweettalk that
bombshell of a 16 yo girl behind the counter.. Lots of sweet sweet music came out of it......

We used to buy ex-juke box records from the local coffee bars and because the middles had been punched, fit 'spiders' into them so they could play on record players. We could stack maybe ten records on the central spindle and the thing would play them one after another. I think my first record in the early 60s was 'Don't play that song for me' by BB King, and although I didn't recognise it at the time, it was to become a classic.

When we moved here twenty two years ago, we brought my LP collection but haven't seen it since then. As we are about to move again soon, I may well find it. The Beatles White Album is in there if I do fine it.
 
BB King can not be wrong.I've always had a fancy for Brit Blues Fleetwood Mac -Peter Green'swell s that is.John Mayall,Chicken Shack etc etc.Still has.
You might well have used the Garrard SP Mk.I with record-changer spindle back then,our were in-built in a heavy cabinet with radio +Tandberg reel-to-reel
Ah! Those were the times!
I even have a Garrard Zero 100 tangential to this day.It's looking like something from outer-space All chromed(Yes!)aluminium..
First thing to do after your move is locate those records,put them on sit back and just Enjoy..Discwashers,ccoker etc you can take next week.. -Reid.
 
I'm currently having a Philips digital cassette player restored by an electrical engineer. It's a DCC810 and a great piece of kit. I particularly wanted it as my classic car is a Daf 33, and both Daf and Philips are Dutch! It has long & medium wave and V.H.F./F.M. and SHORT WAVE! All digitally tuned, of course! The cassette player plays digital cassettes (which are rare nowadays) but will also play normal analogue cassettes (to a higher standard) too!

I've fitted a chrome aerial to the car and have wired up a set of Radiomobile speakers and can't wait to have the radio back from the repairers!
 
Garrard was much too upmarket: no it was a cheap and nasty Dansette.

I've watched Fairport Convention more times than I care to remember but last summer my wife treated us to tickets for Carole King in Hyde Park. Sublime.
 
Digital cassettes Now there's a short lived format Not because it was bad It was really good when done right.I guess that was why
it was fairy widely used i pro-settings.
I have a Denon dcc Quite rare little thingy Without the One copy limitation is digital in digital out infinately -My guess this format dis-
appeard as the first models didn't have the digital limitation of one copy Only which led to the record-industry shat their pants in a
Big way.

Over here in Santa-land they've shut down Sw/Lw/Mw long since and now they kill Fm too - going for that Ratty sound of Dab+ :doh:

Now, Dansette sounds ominous was it one of those plastic ones in garish colours ??

As a music journalist, mostly blues, soul & Americana, I listen to way too much music already and attend too many gis/festivals etc, all free with guest-list passes generally on offer for almost anything i fancy. Also receive vast amounts of CDs both physical copies and downloads from bands, agents, promoters and record companies. I favour CDs with a Denon system for the most part, good audio/sonic solution.
 
I've seen the Eagles live and saw Don Henley at last summer's Carole King concert. I also enjoy tribute bands. Oh Paul McCartney and Genesis too.

Iain Hi! I see you live hard live on the edge there..If of any help I'd relieve you off the burden of picking up Cd's at the Post
-i'd send you my address. I like some of the Denon-stuff too,I remember it to have a "musical warmth" to it -kind of valve-light
which is nice if it doesn't turn murky and sirupy like some Mcintosh.. Anyway-it's all about the music isn't it? -reid
 
Hi Paul-Eagles are officiel Norway-friends, I don't think they've played more than here anywhere in the world
open a barn-door and they would stumble out.. I've never really had a real knack for Macca,he did some strange
stuff ex-Beatles.Superb musician yes,but to me he's always lacked the base-line so didn't get my foot stomping. -R.
 
Hi Neil, I'm getting to that age I don't hide it anymore.More and more I'm on about the war and stuff like steam-locomotives
and the comfort of coal-firing. Naw-not there just yet but I'm training every day to be a grumpy old fart.some might say I'm
doing a good job of it already..but then I ask if they lived through the war -if not,they don't have a say.. :mad: -Reid
 
Classic cars and the blues what a perfect mix, very much into old US blues myself too. Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Son House, Blind Lemon Jefferson etc. Also listen to a lot of vintage Rockabilly as well, I play a bit of guitar too, Gretsch 5420 being my weapon of choice.
A few years ago I came across an old Bang and Olufsen record player and had it refurbished so that's what my vinyl is being played on, otherwise I have a cd player in the kitchen where a lot of time is spent cooking and rocking out!
 
Hi there guys-been away in Roffen sniffing up some cool stuff.. found a pristine Marantz 2275 Receiver 2x75watts in 8 Ohms Not cheap
but worth it. Model is Pure PORN :D It still got its hard plastic cover over frontpanel.
Really nice bit of kit from the late 80's, heavy as they come.It's got treble/mid/bass controls with lots of various frequencies from where
the controls will go + or - 12db and to top that left and right "tone"channel-controls are separete.. It's got that nice warm blue dial-lights
that was one of Saul Marantz trademarks (not LEd but blue 15V.light-bulbs) -I know I know, I'm a Total anorac! Can't help it but just Love
this old stuff and their sound.It's transistorized but has that lovely warm musical valve sound.. can't wait to hook it up to some of my DCM
Time Window speakers.. Anyone knows of some Jim Rogers JR 149 (the cylindrical ones)or alt.150 speakers ?? I'd love to lay my clammy hands
on a set for close-up listening.... Pref the 16 Ohms variant..

Potty I hear you-I have a B&O tangential rec.player unused in orig box complete with a Ortofon pick-up. Pure bliss! If your in a pinch I have
new needles for most of the Ortofon pick-ups (these were the ones originally mounted to the B&O amrked as B&O but Ortofons)
Oh-and by the way I totally second your choise of bluesmen.. :clapping: -Reid.
 
My R4GTL is fitted with a period Sharp ANSS radio/cassette player and whilst the radio seems to work, a bit of a surprise as there is no aerial, the cassette doesn't. For next months France/Spain/Portugal holiday I felt I ought to think about some music in the car and already have a Sony Walkman. If I buy a Sony CPA-9C adaptor, I will be able to not only recharge the Walkman's rechargeable batteries but play music through the car's speakers. I tried a cassette in the player and it rejected it after five seconds. I took it out, flipped it over and tried again. It rejected it again and again.

So my question, is there any point in getting an engineer to repair this? It is something I could try myself? Is it cheap-and-cheerful Japanese tat so throw it away and buy a better and more up-to-date radio/cassette player?
 
Have you tried a different cassette ? - the reject function can be based on tape tension; a jamming tape would cause the rejections.
