Ignition timing

I have purchased a timing light, not easy to find nowadays, and checked Fifis timing which is where the problem lies. There is a gap in the bell housing with a raised rib at the edge presumably the timing mark, there is some paint on the flywheel adjacent to a little slot but I cannot find any info as to whether it should align with the raised rib or not. I know to remove the vacuum advance pipe and block it off but does anyone know which mark should be used? Haynes doesnt cover it in the manual its all the earlier ones.Fifi is not running particularly well and as a result of the distributor base plate clamp not being tight the timing went awry.Everything else seems to check out so I am hoping its the timing.

I tend to line up the notch on the flywheel about halfway between the two ribs.
