Thanks Paul.

Been a bit preoccupied with everything going on at the moment, but hope to take the seat out tomorrow to check for the chassis number. Next job will be to free off the brakes.

Look after yourselves...

Cheers

I finally removed the OMP race seat yesterday. A little paintstripper applied, but doesn’t appear to have any stamping here. I’ve looked under each seat and in the rear RHS boot floor. Any other suggestions, please?

Hope everyone is safe and well.

Cheers

Look on the second or third swaging of the boot floor, counting from the right. The chassis number should be there as your car is post-80. Use paint stripper, it's dot-matrixed and not too deep imprinted.

i remembered discussing this with you angel and if this forum had a tagging system I would have tagged you
if there is a method I have missed on here let me know

Might it have been one of these two, only green ones in my old school prints from the day...

Hi Stuart,

Marvellous!! Yes, it is No 41 driven by Phil Keen. I have the scrutineer’s label that is dated and car numbered. It was still stuck in the rear window when I received the car.

I have looked again for the chassis number. No joy, but the picture is getting clearer!

Thanks for posting your pics - really appreciate that.14312510-815D-42D5-800C-B3BFD06D485D.jpeg

No problem, I have a couple of spare prints, pm me your address and I will drop them in the post.
Why do you need the chassis number? Never going to be checked, just buy a set of stamps....

PM sent - thank you!

I was going to rexregister the car on paper. As a cassic, it needs no tax or MOT, but I could get it insured for a nominal sum. It was just a thought...

I’ve been going through some of the spares I got with the cat. Mostly things like old brake pads, cracked light lenses etc. I have a couple of sets of wings, one with the lettering:

DRIVERS KEITH
HUGH

An old box with some used Koni adjustable dampers is addressed to Mark Fish Motorsport, sender Keith *******

Might try to contact both to see if they remember the car and to get some of the technical history. The engine doesn’t have a Fish Motorsport logo on it, but I did hear it was a particularly strong unit.

Massive thanks to you, Stuart! The prints have arrived in the post, and are really excellent shots. Details, colours - invaluable history. Can’t believe my luck, really. Not only was someone there, but with the photos after all this time, too.

Thanks again!

Not done much on the car in recent days, as I have been using the decent weather to dig some new fence post holes. When I get the pile of fencing materials moved, I can get the Ren moved into the hard standing and start working on the brakes.

Hope everyone is well.

I think Renault cup cars used a 1300 engine. The gear linkage sticks out of the left side of the box top
i have a new set of pistons and liners and a good crank if you need spares

Hi Jon. It's sam, son of Mark Fish.
This is the video of the R5 reunion race - with some footage running first. It isn't an openly search'able video because I wasn't sure about rights usage, but you should be able to watch it with this link :

I was there helping my dad run about 7 cars that day in 2004. It was a great Event. Chris Harris (now Top gear) was in one of the GT turbo's we ran for Autocar.

There has been alot of interest in the TS race cars recently. I sold a rusty road shell for spares to one of the ex-drivers, and then 2 renault 5's to another ex-driver more recently - all in the matter of 4 weeks.

This was mine that I owned and sprayed when I was 17, but too young to use at the celebration race (1st pic sat in the awning before the race), so it was rented to Maggie Anderson (the first ever R5 race winner in the Uk championship. I regrettably had to sell it to pay for college without ever using it myself. Fortunately the very generous new owner let me have a go at brands hatch a few years ago (2nd pic). They are really great fun but not hugely fast. Lots of bump steer I found where they sit so low. I reckon with a bit of work you could get them handling alot better, but they were always restricted by championship regulations. It will make you laugh out loud if you ever get it on track, sitting on the bumper of a modern clio or megane through the twisty bits.... must look so funny.
