    Head lamp bulbs

As Andrew says, P45t are the correct ones and there are many options: Halogen 60/55w, clear or with a yellow glass cover, 6v or 12v. Halogen 100/80, 100/90 or 130/100w. Original tungsten 45/40w, clear or yellow, 6v or 12v. (I keep all of the these in stock apart from the highest wattage, the...

    Which model

There's a RHD 1987 Renault 4 van for £4500 in the 'Classics for Sale' section of my website, RetroSpec Parts. (I know nothing about it other than what the owner asked my to put in his advert).

    Turning the engine over

It's not at all likely that your crank is seized. It's much more likely that the piston rings are a bit rusted and stuck to the bore. Use a little diesel fuel as suggested, (or a 50/50 mix of acetone & ATF).

    European emissions standards and R4s

Your statement about your garage being "very creative with their positioning of the exhaust probe" reminded me of the time I took a friend's Fiesta in for an MOT for her. It failed on emissions and they said it would need a new catalytic converter. The tester was sympathetic when I explained...

    Wheel lock up

I can't see how wheel bearing adjustment, brake adjustment or brake wear could cause a wheel to suddenly lock up and then immediately be ok again. The "one-way" brake line phenomenon can happen if a hose has perished internally to the extent that fluid can only pass through it under pressure...

    Renault 12 TL FOR SALE

When I had my first car, (a Fiat 128 Rally), in 1978, one of my friends had a 12TL just like yours. By the way, M-reg was August 1973 to July 1974, so it's unlikely to be 1971 unless it was an import or hanging around the dealer for a couple of years.

Rotor arm and points for an R4 1974 Model 1123 Ducellier.

I have two different (interchangeable) versions of that rotor arm:

Rotor arm and points for an R4 1974 Model 1123 Ducellier.

In case it helps someone else looking for a rotor arm for a 1123 Ducellier distributor, what's the part number you found for your rotor arm?

Rotor arm and points for an R4 1974 Model 1123 Ducellier.

If you can provide a photo of your rotor arm Trish, I'm sure someone will be able to identify it. I've got a lot of rotor arms, (& caps, points & condensers) for classic French cars, including several listed for R4:

    European emissions standards and R4s

I assume that test was done at idle, (or at a little above idle), where the fuel passes through the adjustable idle mixture jet. Above idle, the mixture is set by fixed, (replaceable, not adjustable), jets and it will be richer than that, (otherwise it wouldn't be running at all well!).

    European emissions standards and R4s

For the UK Mot, it depends on the age of the car: Prior to 1975 (or it might be 1974; I can't remember), it's a visual check only, for excessive smoke emission.

    Electronic ignition

Personally I prefer the Boyer Bransden unit. Similar price (about £40), ultra reliable: 5yr warranty (They've been making electronic ignition systems since the seventies). It doesn't need the condenser but simply uses the points as a trigger only, using a fraction of the current, so the points...

Electronic ignition for 845cc Billancourt engine?

Ditto! If Andy hasn't got the ones you need, I might be able to help too. I've just been sorting through a load on NOS ignition parts for loads of French classics, including the earliest R3 / R4. I've had bad experiences with 123 on other vehicles, (I have no experience of it on the R4 though)...

    Chrome door mirror talk.

I have refurbishment kits for many Cipa & Geco mirrors. Have a look on the mirror housing to find the reference number. Yours will probably be either a 54 or a 195, which are basically the same. (They are stainless steel, rather than chrome). However, if it's an after-market one, it may be a...

If someone can do me a favour..

I'm sorry to throw a spanner in the works but do you realise that the rules for sending stuff to the EU has changed again from 1st July? If you don't have an EU based intermediary who has registered for IOSS in their country, to do the required paperwork and pay the vat applicable in the...
