Renault 4 accident on the road

I can't believe such a nearsighted insurance "expert" sentenced to death a car that good.
And I can't also believe insurances can ban a car from the road forever, even if completely rebuilt after the accident.
I hope it is going to reborn in other R4s...

Can you not approach the person/company/ company who declared it cat B and get him to reconsider.?

Yes, I have done that but they said that the damage was too severe to justify a lower category. I don't think asking again would be fruitful.

If nothing else it could provide valuable parts to convert a left hand drive van to right-hand drive the whole stupidity of this this is is how many completely rusted out Mark 1 escorts that are built up up from nothing how come they can go back on the road as they must be more severely damaged certainly in terms of work required again my deepest sympathies on this very frustrating matter

Thats frustrating and very annoying, amongst other things. But I suppose you could import an F6 from France and make one very good one out of two....

Always tempted but my facilities are somewhat limited without renting an industrial unit (garage is FULL), so I think not:

I am afraid I have finished my attempts to keep or salvage the van, though I think it will be auctioned as-is from the below auction company, and it could be sold for almost nothing. When it was trailed away, it still had a 2018 battery, this year's rear shocks, (cheap) SD-card radio, speakers, 4 x alloy Speedline wheels plus good tyres and fire extinguisher.

Copart salvage online auction site lot number 49711189 (my van) should be displayed soon (Monday earliest I expect, but could be a couple of weeks if they wait for the V5C to change hands via DVLA) - see the website https://www.copart.co.uk/lotSearchResults/?free=true&query=49711189 .

To bid you have to register, supply ID proof and pay £60 for 14-15 months membership (up to Dec next year). Obviously the auctions are mainly used by dealers who use the auctions there regularly. This is the Westbury, Wiltshire Copart facility. I have checked the fees that Copart charge (and they are very good at it!); looks like a bid of £10 will result in your cost of about £150 if you collect the van, including the above registration.

On the website look at the Auctions tab, Auction Calendar, then locate the Westbury dates; the next one is next friday (25th), but it may be some time before my van appears in the list.

If you end up buying this, let me know and I'll send the service history so that you know what you've got, and a few spares your way.

So sad to hear your sorry tale. Does seem crazy that a car cannot be repaired, engineer checked as fit for the road and get MOT and insurance. I thought given the concerns surrounding the planet we are encouraged to recycle. Apparently not!
I really hope some good can come out of this for you. Perhaps put the money towards another R4?

Mmm 100 people register
Copart make loads more money than payout on van

Do I understand this right?
In UK the insurance owns the car, and not the person that actually pays for the car and the insurance?

In case of an accident the insurance sells the car to a towing company who then auctions the wreck to the highest bidder?

And the actual owner can pay again?

Please enlighten me, I don’t understand this madness.

Harbourseal, I don't understand this madness either!
Surely the woman who caused the accident has her own insurance who will pay for the repair on her own car and if Adam didn't claim from his insurance company on his car they wouldn't even know about it and he could just take it home.

I'm following this drama a while and like harbourseal I don't understand how it works in the UK, but to me it doesn't sound right.
Strange world it is and it's becoming stranger and stranger by day.
