14th December 2003 - Rosalie the Renault 4 Sold

Rosalie the Renault 4 has been sold. Robert has joined the exclusive club of R4 owners. Rosalie will complement his Davrian and Rochdale.

I'll have to complete Ermintrude's restoration before New Year as I need a car to drive up to Scotland. Ermintrude isn't all that far off - I have to paint the wheels and bumpers, fit the interior, and sort out a strange braking problem (probably caused by seized rear brake adjusters).

7th December 2003 - Musical Renault Parts

Clementine has been playing a game of musical Renault parts in the garage this week.

Rosalie now has a nice tan interior. The brown tartan suits Rosalie's red paintwork much better than Ermintrude's yellow, so Ermintrude the yellow Renault will get the gray/red/blue tartan from Rosalie.

The rear chassis welding has been completed on the denty yellow car (left). The work was similar to Rosalie's rear chassis repair. The dented yellow car has unkindly been described as 'the badly wrapped toffee' on account of it's contrasting blue doors and wings.

Ermintrude has been taking a back seat this week (literally - a nice gray tartan one). The rear suspension and door seals have gone back on, but that's about it.

None of the Renaults work (again). I think the cold weather and lack of use have caused Rosalie's battery to fail.

2nd December 2003 - New Denty Yellow Renault

Ermintrude's restoration is progressing well. Painting is complete, and the dash and windows are in place.

One out of four Renaults in Clementine's garage now works! The starter motor problem on Rosalie turned out to be just a poor battery connection. Clementine plans to make 2 more work before the end of the year.

The latest addition to the garage was a wonderful Renault 4 up until 3 years ago when it was bought by the previous owner. She went through a period of bad karma that caused the car to be involved in a large number of accidents and made the engine oil turn black.

That car is now in the garage having the rear chassis members welded. It'll need new brake pipes and less dented panels from the scrap blue car. This will need to be finished by the end of the week as a friend will need space at the weekend to swap a head gasket on his car.
